1.  What You Will Need

2.  Hardware Connection

Connect the display to the ESP32-P4 board with the FFC cable. The ribbon already carries everything the panel needs — the display signals, the touch signals, and 3.3 V power — so you do not need a separate power wire.

The PCBA also has a 5V / GND backup power header and a power cable is included. If power over the ribbon is insufficient (dim or flickering backlight, or no image), use the included cable to supplement 5V: connect the header’s 5V and GND to the 5V and GND of a 5V supply.

To insert the cable, pull the black locking latch forward, slide the FFC in with the metal contacts facing the correct side, then push the latch back to lock it. Seat it all the way in — the high-speed signals do not tolerate a loose connection.

ATTENTION: If the backlight turns on but you see no image, it is almost always a loose cable. Re-insert the FFC and make sure the latch is fully closed.

3.  Install the ESP-IDF Environment

This project is built with ESP-IDF v5.5.2 and the VS Code ESP-IDF extension. Install the extension, let it download ESP-IDF v5.5.2, and set the target chip to esp32p4.

ATTENTION: Please use ESP-IDF v5.5.2. Some newer toolchains can stop the ESP32-P4 from starting properly.

4.  Download and Build the Project

  1. Download the OSOYOO 3.5″ DSI × ESP32-P4 example project: [project download link placeholder]
  2. Open the project folder in VS Code (with the ESP-IDF extension).
  3. Confirm the target chip is esp32p4 and click Build.

5.  Flash and Run

  1. Connect the board to the PC with the USB-C cable and select the serial port.
  2. Click Flash and wait for it to finish.
  3. The board resets automatically and the screen lights up with the demo.

6.  What You Will See

The word “OSOYOO” appears in the center of the screen:

From here you can replace it with your own LVGL interface inside the project.
