Introduction

Due to updates in the Raspberry Pi system version, the official MIPI DSI clock frequency has changed, causing some older versions of OSOYOO DSI 5 Inch Display (v1.1) to malfunction on newer Raspberry Pi systems (primarily manifesting as colour distortion). Here, we will specify the compatible system ranges for older screen models.

We have designed and launched new 5-inch DSI products that are compatible with nearly all official Raspberry Pi systems.

Kernel Version Support

The old products mentioned above do not support Linux kernels version 6.6.y and later, but they support nearly all versions prior to that.

System Support

As of the publication date of this article, September 18, 2025.

Legacy OS

The V1.1 screen support all official Raspberry Pi legacy systems, including but not limited to Bullseye, Buster (end of life), etc. (Note: Raspberry Pi 5 isn’t compatible with Legacy OS)

Bookworm OS

  1. When V1.1 version of screen connect with Raspberry Pi 2/3B/3B+/3A+, just support Raspberry Pi OS BOOKWORM version release on and before 2024-03-15
  2. When V1.1 version of screen connect with Raspberry Pi 4, support all official Raspberry Pi BOOKWORM systems.
  3. When V1.1 version of screen connect with Raspberry Pi 5, support allofficial Raspberry Pi BOOKWORM systems, but you edit the config.txt file firstly. After installing the OS image, and open micro SD card which you have installed IMG system and then open “/boot/config.txt” via Notepad++, and add the following lines:
    If you connect with DSI 1 of Raspberry Pi 5, please add:

    dtoverlay=vc4-kms-dsi-7inch,dsi1

    If you connect with DSI 0 of Raspberry Pi 5, please add:

    dtoverlay=vc4-kms-dsi-7inch,dsi0

  1. Use DSI interface to connect Raspberry Pi board;

  11. IPS screen viewing angle: 85, 85, 85, 85 degree

  1. you can click “view archive” under each Raspberry Pi OS version, as following:
  2. you can locate and download it from https://downloads.raspberrypi.com/ to save it on your computer.

Then use Raspberry Pi Imager to install Raspberry Pi OS onto your Raspberry Pi system card.
