2. Direct Installation via Git (Recommended)

2.1 Install Raspberry Pi OS with Raspberry Pi Imager

(Skip this step if your SD card already has a Raspberry Pi OS image.)

Note: The steps below use Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0.11.1 as an example. Other versions may look slightly different. (Device: Raspberry Pi 5)

Step 1: Prepare a freshly formatted microSD card (also called a TF card) with a USB microSD card reader. Recommended sizes: 16 GB or 32 GB.

Step 2: Download Raspberry Pi Imager from the official Raspberry Pi website: https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/.

Step 3: Format your microSD card — run Raspberry Pi Imager, select Erase in the Operating System field, and select your microSD card in the Storage field.

Step 4: Run Raspberry Pi Imager, select your Raspberry Pi 5 as the device, choose Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit) in the Operating System field, and select your SD card in the Storage field. (If you have already flashed Raspberry Pi OS onto your SD card, skip this step.)

2.2 Use an SSH Tool to Control Your Raspberry Pi Remotely

Step 1: Find the IP Address of Your Raspberry Pi

Step 1: Connect your Raspberry Pi to an HDMI monitor or TV. Plug a keyboard and mouse into the Raspberry Pi USB ports. Insert the SD card with the OS installed into the SD card slot on your Raspberry Pi (if you have already set up your Raspberry Pi robot car, connect it to a screen and note its IP address).

Step 2: If you hover over the LAN icon, you will see a notice like this:

Step 3: Download PuTTY from https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ and install it on your Windows PC.

Step 4. Open PuTTY and click Session in the left panel (it is usually collapsed when PuTTY first starts):

Step 5. The first time you log in to the Raspberry Pi using its IP address, you will see a security prompt. Click Yes. When PuTTY asks login as:, type the username pi and the password raspberry (the default password, unless you have changed it).

Note: When you type the password, nothing appears in the window — this is normal. Just type it carefully and press Enter. Once you log in successfully, the window will look like this:

Step 6. Run the following commands on your Raspberry Pi:

# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/osoyoo/osoyoo-dsi-panel.git
cd osoyoo-dsi-panel

# Run the direct installation script
./install-direct.sh display7inch

The 7-inch display is now powered on and functioning properly.
